// MISSION

The mission of Horizons-Upward Bound (HUB) at Cranbrook Schools is to prepare students from the Detroit metropolitan area who have limited opportunities to enter and succeed in college. They support the efforts of their partner schools by providing services that help students pursue and achieve their academic dreams and goals.

// KEY SERVICES PROVIDED

One of the services provided by the team at Cranbrook Horizons-Upward Bound is reading intervention, which consists of one-on-one and group tutoring. Reading specialists are on staff to work closely with and oversee the progress of each student, and tools include the online Lexia reading program.

Students in the program also receive help and encouragement in character development. Areas of focus include leadership development, exposure to a variety of careers, and ensuring students are familiar with soft skills.

When it comes to college preparation, students are encouraged to participate in a week-long college tour and to attend a college fair. A FAFSA workshop is available to students and parents, and assistance is provided to students applying for scholarships.

Finally, Horizons-Upward Bound promotes health and wellness activities such as a 5K run/walk, participation in the Presidential Youth Fitness Program, and sports such as tennis and swimming. Interested students can also help with a community garden.
