Grass Lake winery pairs music with meals

Have a free Saturday? Take a trip to Grass Lake for an intimate dinner concert or an all-Michigan feast in the cozy tasting room of Lone Oak Vineyard Estate. Located just east of Jackson, minutes off I-94, the winery is a great place to find surprisingly good Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, as well as some lovely white wines.

Wine and Dinner Music Series

Every Saturday, vintners Kip and Dennise Barber host talented musicians like bluesy, country singer-guitarist Bill Bynum and jazz-blues singer Sheila Landis, both of metro Detroit. Other acts appearing at the winery include the popular doo-wop, a capella group, The GelCaps, and singer-songwriter Ian Stewart. Both have already made repeat performances at this venue, which is quickly becoming a favorite Saturday evening hangout. Upcoming talent includes the smoky-voiced jazz and blues artist, Koke McKesson, and keyboard whiz Doug Decker.

Accompanying the music is your choice of dinner entrée, which, of course, can be paired with Lone Oak wines crafted by Kip in the back-of-the-house winery. The unassuming atmosphere welcomes 42 guests to dine at long tables flanking the small stage. With family-style seating, you’ll surely get to know your neighbors. Reservations are required and recommended early to ensure you don’t miss your favorite sounds. Roughly $22 gets you dinner and entertainment; wine by the glass ranges from $3.50 to $7.25.
