Editorial intern Megan McDonald just thought her night job as a restaurant hostess would have little to do with her journalism degree from Western Michigan University. But we put both disciplines to work to help compile our “Taste Tour” article. During her time at Hour Media, Megan has also learned the joys of fact-checking phone numbers and websites, assisted on fashion photo shoots, and written for various publications, including Metro Detroit Bride and DBusiness.
Molly Abraham has been covering the metro Detroit restaurant scene long enough that several of her all-time favorites are now just memories. However, when one departs, another shows up. Now The Detroit News restaurant critic and a regular contributor to Hour Detroit, she says: “I still love that year-in and year-out, I can depend on the fact that there will always be new and interesting places to discover.”
Editorial director Steve Wilke always enjoys working on Menu Guide, but particularly liked this year’s “Taste Tour” of the region’s ethnic eateries. He learned how to prepare Rouladen and other German delicacies by watching his “Oma” (grandmother) cook, and also received a few choice hints on Lebanese fare from a neighbor when he lived in Dearborn. But he still can’t flip an egg to save his life … and still tends to overcook pork dishes.

As the president of Promote Michigan, she lives and breathes all that’s wonderful about the Great Lakes State — especially things that involve eating and drinking! Editor Anne Berry Daugherty freelances for a number of Hour Media publications, including DBusiness. After a long day of working, followed by her second job as taxi driver for her teenage daughters, she looks forward to those occasions when she can head to one of the restaurants listed in the Menu Guide and enjoy a relaxing dinner out. The only hard part is deciding which one to try!

A native Detroiter, Vaughn says the most interesting part of food photography is the people behind the cuisine.
