WHAT’S UP, TOP DOCS?

What makes Hour Detroit experts in health when publishing “the best” doctors in Detroit?... Please check credentials for the Top Docs. I’ve been told that [a doctor] is not board certified or board eligible for the specialty they’re listed under.

(Editor’s Note: The above represents excerpts of letters received about our Top Docs list [October 2014].It bears repeating that the doctors are not selected by members of the Hour Detroit staff. They are nominated exclusively through online surveys submitted by physicians [M.D.s and D.O.s] in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw, and Livingston counties. Hour Detroit tabulates the votes, fact-checks names and affiliations of winners, and checks if a physician’s license is valid, but does not check board certifications.)

VIVA OTTAVA VIA

Had a fantastic dinner at Ottava Via (“Top of Their League,” October 2014). Great food. Great service. And a parking lot! Loved it.

IT’S GOOD TO BE KING

I love this article! (“King of the Castle,” October 2014). I didn’t realize that Mark Ridley and I have so-o-o much in common. My mother also played piano and my husband and I attended Wayne State University.

// You are a prince among men, Mark Ridley! Thank you for bringing Ken, JJ, and me all the talent over the years! You are so deserving of your success, my friend!

TO YOUR HEALTH, NATURALLY

Great job! (“Fresh Prescription,” October 2014) It is always good to introduce natural ways to solve an ailment.
Lidia Reyes, executive director at Latino Family Services

BABY BASICS

Thank you for a fabulous piece in the October issue (“Baby-Friendly Basics”). Your grasp on the baby-friendly accreditation and the infant mortality issues that face us here in Detroit was spot on!
Paula K. Schreck, M.D., St. John Providence Health System, breastfeeding coordinator

// Congratulations Christina [Partalis]! So glad you stuck it out. As a breast-feeding mother of three, now all grown up, it is definitely worth the effort!
