Nonprofit creative facility Northville Art House is supporting the work of area students with two new exhibits. The Northville High School IB Art Exhibition and the Northville Public Schools Student Virtual Art Exhibition — which feature everything from drawing and photography to painting and pottery — are on display through April 9.

A culmination of the annual International Baccalaureate visual arts program at Northville High, the IB Art Exhibition includes more than 150 works by 19 students. To accompany their individual displays, each student has also prepared a written statement that communicates the purpose of their art.

“The IB Art students showed a passion for art,” says Monika Miller, instructor of the IB Art program at Northville High School, in a press release. “I am so proud of their commitment to create artwork that is meaningful and personal. These pieces have a connection to the artist, and hopefully to all who view them.”

The Virtual Art Exhibition features pieces by more than 30 students in grades 8-12 at Meads Mill Middle School and Northville High School. Like the IB Art Exhibition, each piece is presented with a written statement by its student artist. “Art is everything…everything is art!” says Brian Balcoff, instructor and coordinator for the exhibition at Northville High School, in a press release. “Thank you to the art students for sharing your work and bringing a smile to my face.”

The Northville Art House Exhibition Committee recognizes each student participating in the Virtual Art Exhibition and awards prizes to the top three. Viewers, who can access the exhibit on the facility’s website, are also invited to share their supportive comments online.

Northville Art House, located at 215 W. Cady St. near downtown Northville, hosts open gallery hours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Admission is free.
