This intimate, sophisticated spot is decked out in deep-red wood tones, blue banquettes, and bright-yellow tablecloths and offers food as good as at its big-ticket and showier counterparts. Owner-chef Michael Chamas honed his skills working at the Prescott Hotel in San Francisco under Wolfgang Puck. The menu is a blend of Italian, French, and American. Shrimp scampi comes on a crisp, light, flour tortilla and is sauced in white wine, garlic, and a dash of cream. Scallops are pan-fried and topped with a sauce of butter, garlic, cilantro, and lemon. Worth trying also: the signature lake perch served with a caper butter sauce; the de-boned chicken with a garlic-lemon sauce; and the delightful vegetarian eggplant tower with spinach, mushrooms, and fontina cheese.
