Essential Information

23810 Woodward
Pleasant Ridge, MI

248-544-2675

A simple, pleasant modern place with an outsized wine list and very good food, Cork offers a lot more than the “pub’ its name suggests. Owner Nancy Crutchfield emphasizes quality ingredients from local farmers, as do many these days. They are serious enough to not even compromise on processed tomato juice, so no Bloody Marys. There is a ton of originality and spunkiness in the cooking. Try the spicy pan-fried chickpeas, or the so-called B.L. Tart, a sweet-ish jam from bacon on phyllo pastry with fresh tomato and watercress. A “grilled-cheese sandwich” resembles a French #croque-monsieur# with prosciutto and Gruyère, while an “Amherst Egg” is poached and topped with brioche, flank steak, crumbled bacon, and blue cheese. All of it is innovative, surprising, and delightful. D Tue.-Sat.
