The narrow two-story building housing this Irish pub dates to 1879 and once served as a ticket office for the Grand Trunk Railway. Today, the long bar still serves thirsty Detroit transients, as well as the business-lunch crowd. Locally produced breads from Avalon Bakery and meats from Eastern Market anchor much of the fare, which pairs well with the selection of all-Michigan-made draft beers. Diners can build their own burgers, or go for pub staples such as the Reuben — served here with house-made Thousand Island dressing and Poet Stout Kraut — or GhettoBlaster-beer-battered fish and chips. There’s also a hearty, slightly spicy shepherd’s pie.
