This year’s Sphinx Competition Finals Concert
will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2. The
competition offers young Black and Latinx classical string players a chance to compete under the guidance of an internationally renowned panel of judges and to perform with established professional musicians. The finalists will compete for the $50,000 Robert Frederick Smith Prize and solo appearances with major orchestras; each finalist will perform with the
Sphinx Symphony Orchestra, led by guest conductor Michael Morgan. Guest artists EXIGENCE, a vocal ensemble led by Eugene
Rogers, will also perform. From Jan. 31-Feb. 2, 2019 at the Westin Book Cadillac Hotel in Detroit, the public is also invited to attend SphinxConnect. The epicenter for artists and leaders in diversity will welcome hundreds of musicians, industry leaders, educators, funders, diversity advocates, and more for a transformative conference filled with sessions, performances, and networking opportunities.
