This year’s Sphinx Competition Finals Concert will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4. The competition offers young Black and Latino classical string players a chance to compete under the guidance of an internationally renowned panel of judges and to perform with established professional musicians. The winner of the Senior Division will receive the $50,000 Robert Frederick Smith Prize. The concert will include performances by the Sphinx Competition finalists, the Sphinx Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Carlos Prieto, and the inaugural performance of EXIGENCE, a vocal ensemble led by Eugene Rogers. From Feb. 1-4, the public is also invited to attend SphinxConnect, the epicenter for artists and leaders in diversity at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center. Join hundreds of musicians of color, industry leaders, educators, students, funders, diversity advocates, and more for this opportunity to engage in the global conversation of diversity in the arts.
