SHOGUN CHINESE & JAPANESE BISTRO: A bistro it isn’t, but Shogun does offer an interesting mix of expertly prepared sushi and sashimi, teppan table cookery, and Chinese fare in a handsome, airy setting with granite-topped sushi bar and tables amid an array of contemporary Asian art. 23195 Marter, St. Clair Shores; 586-350-0927. L & D daily. $16

CLIFF BELL’S: This classic piece of old Detroit with nicely restored Art Deco style offers something of a throwback menu to match its ’30s flair. Look for frog legs, oxtail soup, and coq au vin, along with trendier items from the kitchen of chef Matt Baldridge. Jazz is the prevailing music on the bandstand. 2030 Park, Detroit; 313-961-2543. D Tue.-Sun. $18
