What was your favorite show?
Nina: Theyskens’ Theory, hands down.
Rino: I was just excited to do them all.
Kristina: Definitely Theyskens’ Theory — what amazing pieces, such unique, modern, and strong shapes. Loved, loved the shoes.
How did this opportunity come about?
Nina: Kérastase sponsored [the] seven shows.
Rino: Nina is one of the Kérastase tech people. [They] get chosen first for the event, and we were lucky for the relationship that Nina has with Kérastase. [Kérastase chose Rino and Kristina to join the team, due to their good working relationship.]
Were you able to meet any of the designers?
Kristina: We did meet Jonathan Simkhai, Phillip Lim, and Thakoon Panichgul.
Did the designers have the hairstyles set for the team?
Nina: Odile Gilbert [the key hairdresser] has the relationships with the designers, so before the shows she consults with them. Then she does a demonstration on what she wants.
Runway fashions are often outrageous; you would never see them on the street. Is that how runway hairstyles work?
Nina: There’s a difference between each of the cities for fashion. Paris is couture and pure theatrics. London is so eccentric, out there, and almost inaccessible. Milan is luxe and red carpet, and New York is ready-to-wear. In fact, we just did a Phillip Lim hairstyle this past week.
What were some of the fashion trends that you noticed?
Kristina: I saw a lot of beige, pleated high-waist pants, flowy dresses, and killer heels.
Nina: The palettes: a lot of burgundy, royal blue, and gold.
Rino: A lot of plaids.
How was the street style in New York?
Nina: Everything and anything.
Kristina: It all depended where you were. You had the artsy crowd, the uptown, and the [trendier] crowd. It was inspiring to see people be adventurous with their look. Lots of harem pants.
What’s the vibe in New York City during Fashion Week?
Kristina: It’s so exciting, full of people eager to see the new trends.
Nina: Pure fashion adrenaline.
Rino: It’s my drug of choice.
