Dr Albert H. Belfie is a physical medicine and rehabilitation doctor who believes in solving a problem — not just covering it up — by using non-narcotic pain management and using a wide variety of treatments.
“I don’t want to mask the problem; I want to solve the problem,” says Dr. Belfie, who has more than 25 years of physical medicine and rehabilitation experience.
Dr. Belfie has extensive knowledge of comprehensive rehabilitation training in treating musculoskeletal and neuromuscular injuries, sports injuries, arthritis, and chronic pain. He performs EMG diagnostic testing of nerve and muscle disorders and uses osteopathic manipulation, a manual manipulative therapy; acupuncture; and injection therapy, including joint and trigger-point muscle injections, to help patients recover from or manage their illness. This enables the patient to have a higher quality of life.
“I treat patients who have been involved in car accidents or work-related incidents or sports injuries,” says Dr. Belfie, who graduated from Michigan State University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1986 and then had a rotating internship at Mount Clemens General Hospital in 1986-87. “I deal with anything from back and neck pain to joint pain, nerve problems, arthritis, and carpal tunnel syndrome,” he says.
Dr. Belfie completed his physical medicine and rehabilitation residency at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. He’s board-certified through the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (1991). Dr. Belfie is also a multiple-year Hour Detroit Top Doc award winner.
