Michael J. Busuito, M.D. is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He has more than 30 years of experience in both disciplines of plastic surgery: cosmetic and reconstructive surgery.
Dr. Busuito has received many honors over his years of practice, including being named a Detroit News Michiganian of the Year. He’s also a multiyear Hour Detroit magazine Top Doc (including 2017) and has been awarded many faculty teaching awards from WSU, where he’s clinical associate professor of surgery and a member of the board of governors.
As a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of several prestigious medical societies, Dr. Busuito has also published numerous peer-reviewed articles and abstracts, and has delivered presentations at conferences across the country.
Dr. Busuito’s reputation as a skilled surgeon has earned him accolades from peers and, despite his active schedule, he has volunteered his surgical services to underprivileged children in Mexico since 1994. He’s the founder of Operation KINDNESS (Kids In Need Deserve Necessary and Essential Surgical Services), an organization that has treated thousands of patients with conditions such as cleft lips and palates, burn scars, and cancerous lesions. The children treated by Operation KINDNESS have little access to surgical treatment and without Operation KINDNESS, they would have little to no chance of leading a normal life.
Dr. Busuito earned his medical degree in 1981 from the Wayne State University School of Medicine, where he also completed his residencies in general surgery and plastic surgery. He was the chief administrative resident in both specialties.
Dr. Busuito is a member of many professional organizations including the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, the Michigan State Medical Society, the Wayne County Medical Society, the Michigan Academy of Plastic Surgeons, and the Midwest Surgical Association.
His hospital affiliations include Beaumont hospitals in Royal Oak, Troy, and Macomb; St. John Providence Hospital; and the Detroit Medical Center.
