Spinning off the success of their Ferndale original, husband-and-wife proprietors Thom and Regan Bloom have taken the next step, moving into a space in downtown Birmingham where they’ve added dinner to breakfast and lunch. The much more elaborate setting than the bare-bones Ferndale spot, and the added amenity of cocktails, have been drawing crowds for a menu as eclectic as the décor, which mixes ’50s retro with sleek contemporary. The American fare (with bit of Southwest influence) is appealing and unpretentious.

203 Pierce St.; 248-792-9769. $15

Cute place. Tables are wide and hard to talk across, especially when you're competing with super-loud music. Dinner menu is without good balance. Seriously unpleasant hostess - too hard to say hello it seems, only "how many." Wish the place success, but it could use some basic improvement.
