Wasabi Korean & Japanese Cuisine: It’s not bad being the next-door neighbor of the DIA, and that’s where this Asian restaurant is located — in the Park Shelton, the very building where Diego Rivera lived while working on his murals. A sushi bar and a full Korean/Japanese menu, including many of the favorite dishes from both countries, give the Midtown neighborhood an interesting choice. 15 E. Kirby, Detroit; 313-638-1272. L & D Mon.-Sat. $14 H

Tasca de Plata: A former retro diner has become a Spanish restaurant with an authentic menu of tapas and paella in the hands of proprietor José Montes and chef Benito Espinosa. Shawls and flamenco costumes draped over the windows and along the walls, as well as vintage photographs of flamenco dancers, contribute to the transformation. There are also flamenco performances on weekends. 6600 N. Canton Center Rd., Canton; 734-459-7685. L & D Tue.-Sun. $15 H
