WE’VE GOT MAIL… Praise us or pan us, but just put it down in words. Bravos or boos, we want to hear from you.

Good Medicine

I have a “paper” subscription to Hour Detroit and, by far, [the substance abuse/addiction feature, October 2011] cements for me the reason why a subscription to Hour Detroit is one of the best investments you can make.

— Laura Marie Vogel, White Lake Township

Tribute to Tony

Regarding the “Framing a Life” Anthony Williams story [October 2011]: Galleries were packed at Paint Creek Center for the Arts [in Rochester] tonight. Tony was a wonderful teacher and I enjoyed learning from him. He is so missed.

— Sally Ann Brown

Top Doc Honored

Thank you so much for your mention of me in Hour Detroit’s (“Top Docs,” October 2011). I so appreciate the “Top Doc” recognition and am humbled by this honor. I share this accomplishment with all my trainers and their supporting staff who afforded me the experiences and education that led me to this achievement. I truly love what I do for a living, and I am fortunate that, in my profession, patient thanks and appreciation for my efforts are experienced every day. Yet, recognition from one’s own peers is an honor I never thought I would achieve. I thank and applaud Hour Detroit for organizing, publishing, and recognizing physicians. Evidence of your contribution to medicine and devotion to a better metro Detroit is certain. Thank you again for this amazing honor.

— Nathan Bloch, D.O., Main Center Family Medicine, Northville

The Search Is On

What an interesting story I read in Hour Detroit while waiting on my car being serviced at a dealership [“The Tragic Curse That Haunted a Family,” October 2011]. The car was ready but I had not completed reading the story, so the dealership told me to take the magazine home with me. I will try finding the Knoch family on an immigrant passenger-ship list to see if I can find out from what place in Saxony they came. As I’m from Germany and a retired translator, I may even translate the story into German so that German ancestors may find out what happened to their emigrant ancestors.

Titanic Tragedy

Over the years, I’ve enjoyed reading the work of Richard Bak. His Titanic piece [November 2011] was very sensitive, especially since he brought the story back to Detroit.

Pawn Praise

When we went on vacation this year, we flew out of Detroit. We made sure to have time after the return flight to visit American Jewelry and Loan [“Market Share,” November 2011]. Seth and Ashley weren’t there, but Les was one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. As soon as he was done making an offer on a coin collection for the show, he came over and started signing things and taking pictures with everyone.
