ANITA’S KITCHEN

The covered and heated patio is the most popular seating area at this Ferndale perennial favorite, yes, even in the middle of winter. Potted palms and other greenery — they’re faux but they’ve fooled more than one Mediterranean food fan — evoke warmer times as do the festoons of small round light bulbs overhead that give the place a festive feeling. Diners at the round tables warm up with chicken shawarma, stuffed grape leaves, red pepper hummus, crushed lentil soup, and one item that doesn’t have Beirut in its origins — Joe’s Not So Buffalo wings. The wings are named for co-proprietor Joe Wegrzyn’s hometown.
