Drink Recipe: John Delorean

What’s better on a hot day than fresh watermelon? How about adding whiskey? Berkley’s Vinsetta Garage — recently featured on Esquire Network’s Best Bars in America — pays homage to Detroit auto icons such as John DeLorean. The watermelon shrub, made in house, makes this drink special — and perfect for lounging on the patio. — Dorothy Hernandez

 

Ingredients

1 cube fresh watermelon
1 cube fresh pineapple
2 dashes Peychaud’s bitters
1½ ounces Jameson Irish Whiskey
½ ounce watermelon shrub (see recipe at hourdetroit.com)
½ ounce demerara simple syrup
½ ounce fresh squeezed lemon juice

 

Directions

Muddle together the watermelon, pineapple, and bitters. Add Jameson, shrub, demerara, and lemon juice. Add ice and shake. Double strain over ice into glass and serve.
