Recipe: Passion for Rye

1836

Kick the sickly sweet tiki drinks to the curb. Adil Yamin, the beverage director for Townhouse’s locations in Detroit and Birmingham, has you covered. “I enjoy whiskeys, bourbons, [and] drys,” he says. That inspired him to craft a patio-appropriate “summery Manhattan that keeps its body.” The result was this tart and fruity cocktail with only four ingredients. While basic, the flavors are still complex. The spiciness of the rye whiskey works with the sweetness of the Montenegro (a type of Italian amaro liqueur) and syrup, creating a dangerously drinkable result, even as the ice melts.

Ingredients

2 ounces rye whiskey
½ ounce Montenegro
¼ ounce passion fruit syrup
2 dashes Angostura bitters
Lemon twist, for garnish

Directions

Combine whiskey, Montenegro, bitters, and syrup in a rocks glassover ice. Stir well, garnish with a lemon twist, and serve.
