Casey Nesterowich
While planning the June issue, Casey Nesterowich had lots to celebrate (see “Legendary Winners and Landslides” for a list of recent awards). What could possibly be better to celebrate with than gelato (and cocktails)? Consider her the Italian gelato expert now, and try some at Trattoria inside of Cantoro Italian Market. And don’t miss Divino, a gelato-filled fruit company launched by Reed Cataldo, a Birmingham native. She met him at Lollapalooza last summer, and knew she had to share the unique story. DeJanay Booth
After graduating in December from Ball State University in Indiana, Hour Detroit intern DeJanay Booth decided to come back home to Michigan to enhance her skills. “I’ve spent four years away from family, so I figured why not come back and see where life takes me,” she says. Booth studied magazine journalism, starting her sophomore year of college after a year studying another major. “I was not as enthusiastic as I wanted to be,” she says. “I believe that if I don’t enjoy it while in school, then I’m not going to like it in the real world. I love to write and don’t regret pursuing something that I’m passionate about.” After the internship, Booth hopes to further her career in journalism and continue telling stories.
Rebecca Voigt
“Working on the ‘Best of Detroit’ shoot was like being on the set of a movie,” says Hour Detroit style editor Rebecca Voigt. “Everything was so cinematic, from the special effects makeup to the faux snow, and it all came together to create something magical.” To help make that magic, Voigt dressed an impressive cast of characters, bringing a fashionable twist to the Grimm side of classic fairy tales. Voigt is a stylist, writer, and editor whose work has appeared in local, national, and international publications, including Metro Detroit Bride, La’G, BG, Prim, Cliché, and Hint. She spends her time off set writing a style blog, paper-cloth.com, and taking daily adventures with her husband, Jon, and 1-year-old son, Graydon.
Roy Ritchie
This year marks photographer Roy Ritchie’s sixth consecutive “Best of Detroit” feature. In the past, he’s coached Hour Detroit readers and extras on how to act like rock stars and convinced extras to hang out in Detroit back alleys for superhero photo shoots in the freezing rain. He’s created a three-ring circus, a boxing ring — you name it. This year, he helped transform the already magical grounds of Cranbrook Educational Community into fairy tale scenes that capture the imagination. In addition to his regular contributions to this magazine, Ritchie has done commercial and editorial work for Time, Bloomberg, Bon Appétit, and ESPN The Magazine.
