Déjà Food: 'Ducking' the Bill at Pontchartrain Wine Cellars

Published:

Years ago my husband and I and two friends went to the Pontchartrain Wine Cellars on Larned Street to celebrate two birthdays. We had a great waiter who was friendly, accommodating, and just plain wonderful. After many glasses of Cold Duck and a delicious dinner, we wanted to reward the waiter with a very generous tip. After taking the cash, the waiter soon returned and graciously explained that not only was there not enough money for the tip, but we hadn’t even given him enough to cover the check! Too many Cold Ducks? How embarrassing! — Sunny D. Lapadat, Clinton Township
