You Auto Know Café 78

The building housing the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD) was once an auto dealership. That explains the name of its new café, Café 78. It’s a reference to rule 78, a system of how interest is charged on car loans, says co-proprietor Marc Djozlija, who runs it with Wright & Co. partner Dave Kwiatkowski. It serves coffee, pastries, and savory foods, and there’s a full bar …

How Many Bradys in a Bunch?

The original Jim Brady’s on Seven Mile Road in Detroit was the epitome of a cozy pub, with great burgers and chili as its menu stars and a kitchen that was just a griddle and a broiler in about 5 feet of space behind the bar. Tommy Brady, the grandson of founder Jim, is preparing to recreate it as much as possible in Royal Oak, where he and partners Mary Brady (of Diamond Jim Brady’s Bistro in Novi) and longtime pal Darin Dingman will completely renovate the former Oxford Inn on South Main Street and call it Jim Brady’s Detroit. High-Powered Happy Hour

The Women’s Power Breakfast campaign celebrated its 21st birthday last year with a little addition to the usual schedule, a Women’s Power Happy Hour, to raise funds for Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan. Pretty appropriate for the big 21. This year comes the second Happy Hour at the Zenith in the Fisher Building. The date is March 31, and the event includes drinks, hors d’oeuvres, and a silent auction. Karen M. Mazo, Dawn Rassel, Linzie Venegas, and Paige Lustig are planning the happy hour.
The next Power Breakfast is at Gleaners’ headquarters on April 22. Details at womenspowerbreakfast.org.
