Finding Your Weekend

“What is a weekend?” asked Maggie Smith in her role as Violet Crawley, the Dowager Countess of Grantham, in the first season of Downton Abbey. Although her question was more a derisive statement about the working class, take a moment to think about it.

What is a weekend to you? Is it a time to do chores, clean, shop, and get a haircut or a car wash, or is it a time to do what you want? Do you get outside, explore something new, and create an adventure, or is your weekend spent scrolling your smartphone?

Spring is here! Put down the phone. Get outside. Make the most of your weekend. Need help deciding what to do or where to go? The next few pages should give you some great ideas for a grand escape.

Whether you stay close to home and experience the amazing nightlife, concerts, and dining available at Detroit and Toledo casinos, or venture north to explore the natural beauty of Traverse City and Petoskey, there are plenty of ways to not only spend a weekend, but to savor it.

Forget binge-watching or phone-surfing this weekend, and set your mind on visiting a destination that will make you feel royally happy.

With boundless energy, perseverance, humor, dogged persistence, and a great staff, Pat works harder than any other agent to achieve his clients’ goals. He has sold over $120 million of estate-quality homes in just the last three years.

Pat believes buying a home in northwest Michigan is more than square footage and a floor plan. With its blue lakes, miles of shoreline, fresh air, rolling hills, undisturbed woods, vibrant towns, and friendly people, it’s an extraordinary opportunity to experience and share a real treasure. Clearly, it is Pat’s enthusiasm for the area’s lifestyle that translates into results for you, whether you are a buyer or a seller.

As your Buyer’s Representative, Pat can make the process of house hunting much easier and more efficient than if you did it all yourself. He can help you get financing, guide you to local neighborhoods, help you determine your budget, and prioritize a list of essential features that you need in your next home. He’ll save you valuable time by finding the properties that best suit your requirements, and will show you only the most promising ones. Once you’ve found a place that catches your eye, he’ll look at comparable properties in the area to help determine a purchase offer. Then he’ll negotiate on your behalf with the seller to make sure you get the most favorable terms.

Pat would consider it a privilege to work with you. Call him today to begin your search for your vacation home or vacation rental.

TRAVERSE CITY

WHY DO SO MANY PEOPLE LOVE TRAVERSE CITY IN THE SPRING? Because they’ve discovered that the beauty of this wonderful place is at its peak in springtime. The hills and valleys are misted in new greenery, the endless beaches come alive with warmth, and the air is filled with the scent of millions of flowering cherry trees. It’s the perfect time for a romantic getaway, a village shopping adventure, or a wine country tasting tour.

Most people know Traverse City is Michigan’s favorite summer playground, but spring brings a different kind of traveler to this land of dunes, lakes, and forests. It’s a gentler, more romantic season — a time of moist warm mornings, golden afternoons, and cool, lingering evenings. The summer crowds and heat haven’t arrived yet, the orchards are covered in fluffy clouds of blossoms and, best of all, the enchantment of Traverse City is available at very reasonable prices.

Brandywine Falls in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

OHIO’S FIVE BEST WATERFALLS

Guest Information:
www.ohio.org

NATURE LOVERS WILL REJOICE as they take in the refreshing spring air and experience the beauty of Ohio’s wildflowers and captivating waterfalls on a trip to any one of the state’s most beautiful destinations.

1. HOCKING HILLS. Encounter more than 40 species of wildflowers, including rarities like white and red trillium. Take in the beauty of Hocking Hills State Park’s Upper Falls and Lower Falls, or the Ash Cave waterfall — one of the highest falls in the state, where water plummets nearly 90 feet into a sandstone cave.

2. MOHICAN STATE PARK. Experience low flow falls, which are best seen during a two-mile hike beginning at the park’s covered bridge. The Big and Little Lyons Falls are both located on small streams that flow into the gorge. Discover wildflowers including the round-leaved orchid — a rare bloom in Ohio.

3. CUYAHOGA VALLEY NATIONAL PARK. The park’s 65-foot Brandywine Falls, one of the state’s largest and most scenic waterfalls, flows from Brandywine Creek and is featured along the Brandywine Gorge Trail. In the springtime, the forests come alive with short-lived wildflowers including spring beauty, yellow trout lily, Virginia bluebells, Jack-in-the-pulpit, and several species of trillium.

4. GRIGGS RESERVOIR PARK. Hayden Falls is uniquely situated a few miles south of downtown Dublin, where Hayden Run has carved a gorge on its way to the Scioto River. As you stroll through the park, keep an eye out for the red and yellow blooms of wild columbine growing on the rock walls.

5. CLIFTON GORGE STATE NATURE PRESERVE. Located in the quaint-yet-cool village of Yellow Springs you will find the preserve, which is hailed as one of the most spectacular sites in the state for viewing spring wildflowers. Check out the historic Clifton Mill, built in the early 1800s, and enjoy the views of a waterfall that’s high above the Little Miami River.
