Hour Detroit wins big at SPJ 2016 Excellence in Journalism Awards

Hour Detroit brought home nearly 20 honors.

On Tuesday, Hour Detroit brought home nearly 20 honors from the annual Society of Professional Journalists – Detroit Chapter (SPJ) 2016 Excellence in Journalism Awards celebration.

Reviewed by journalists from other SPJ chapters, the Excellence in Journalism Awards recognize outstanding achievements in print, broadcast, photo, and online journalism across southeastern Michigan.

Hour Detroit was honored in the following categories:

  • Cover Design: First Place—Restaurant of the Year (March 2015); Valerie Morgan, Joe Vaughn and Kosta Finnllow​
  • Cover Design: Second Place—Best of Detroit (June 2015); Valerie Morgan, Roy Ritchie and Veronica Soderlund​ 
  • Cover Design: Third Place—The Food Issue (August 2015); Valerie Morgan and Cybelle Codish
  • Magazine Spread Design: Honorable Mention — Reclaiming the Rouge (May 2015); Veronica Soderlund
