On April 22 at the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Founders Junior Council hosted the Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo in Detroit ArtSeen, celebrating the exhibit of the same name. Guests enjoyed an exclusive Mexican tasting dinner, cocktails, live Mariachi and Mexican folk dancing performances, and a preview of the exhibit. Proceeds benefited the DIA.
On April 18 at the Fisher Building Atrium, the Detroit Wayne County Health Authority celebrated its 10th anniversary with the Heroes of Health Awards gala. Proceeds benefitted the maternal and child health programs of the Health Authority.
On April 16 at the Riverview Ballroom at Cobo Center, the Mercy Education Project held it's 9th annual Doorway to the Future Dinner and Auction, which benefited educational programs serving at-risk girls and women in Detroit.
On April 18 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Utica, Motown Soup, a collaboration of volunteers who produce soup and food mixes, donating all profits to local homeless and hunger-fighting organizations, celebrated their 10th anniversary with a check presentation of their largest donation yet.
On April 16 at Madison Elementary School in Madison Heights, the St. Clair Butterfly Foundation held their first child abuse prevention symposium in honor of National Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month. The forum featured a panel of speakers who shared their own personal or professional insight into the issue of child abuse and neglect, followed by a Q&A.
