November 2010: Bites
The dining-room manager, aptly named Lucas Grill, has moved from his management role at Bourbon Steak and SaltWater at MGM Grand Detroit to Grand Rapids, where he manages the Five Diamond winning 1913 Room at the Amway Grand Plaza.
Chef/proprietor Mary Brady is shopping for a new location for Diamond Jim Brady’s Bistro, which has been in the Novi Town Center for 19 years. (The space is being taken over by a big-box store.) She hopes to relocate somewhere in the general area by the first of the year.
Can this be a trend? The Larco family spotted the ascendancy of the sports bar last year when they turned their elegant Italian restaurant into the Big Beaver Tavern. Now, the owners of Pi Restaurant & Lounge, the successor to Excalibur, have dropped the international menu at the Southfield spot and have segued into The Pub, a sports bar.
The Andiamo Restaurant Group is down one Italian, but up one Mexican restaurant. Andiamo Osteria on Main Street in downtown Rochester has become the second Rojo Mexican Bistro in the company’s stable, following the success of chef Luis Garza’s menu at the original Rojo in Novi’s Fountain Walk.
And just up the street from the new Rojo, Bill Kruse and Vince Clark are celebrating the 19th anniversary of their perennially popular Rochester Chop House.
