Mimi's Bistro ///

The 24-seat restaurant/gallery serves egg dishes, sandwiches, soups, and salads, including some recipes from proprietor Melanie Schridde’s great-grandmother Mimi, for whom she named the spot. Chalkboards spotlight specialties, which include locally roasted coffee, fresh smoothies, and such dishes as carrot-ginger soup, roasted seasonal vegetables with hummus and French bread, German potato pancakes with applesauce, and salads such as a chopped Reuben. The adjoining gallery spotlights the works of Charles Schridde, the proprietor’s late father, as well as other local artists. 15318 E. Jefferson Ave., Grosse Pointe Park; 313-922-4085. B & L Tue.-Sun. $10 H

Bill's ///

The name may seem almost anonymous, but the restaurant, a remake of the space where Fox & Hounds once stood, is anything but. The sixth in the Bill Roberts stable is nothing short of a smash, with its upbeat atmosphere that pays homage to the past (but is by no means stuck in it). A menu that combines re-imagined retro dishes, such as escargot stuffed mushrooms, clams casino, and frog legs with contemporary dishes including rib-eye and New York strip steaks, hits all the right notes. An excellent wine and cocktail list accompanies the fare. 39556 Woodward Ave., Bloomfield Hills; 248-646-9000. L & D daily. $26 H
