Cocktail Recipe: The New Bullshot

Published:

History buffs may recall that in 1961, Barbra Streisand was a Caucus Club lounge singer. The club was also a point of origin for another star: the Bullshot (a Bloody Mary with beef stock instead of tomato juice). In the 1950s, it became a coast-to-coast hit. When George Sboukis reopened the legendary club, he didn’t want a “rear-view-mirror” look back. Here’s a reimagined version of the original, subbing out vodka for an Italian gin that has a hint of tomato. Sboukis says crowds are coming back for more. Now if he could just get Babs to sing on a Saturday night or two…

Ingredients

1 ½ ounces Moletto gin
2 ounces beef bouillon mixture*
¼ ounce lemon juice
2 dashes of balsamic vinegar
Candied bacon for garnish

Directions

Pour all ingredients into a cocktail shaker. Cover and shake well, then pour over ice into old-fashioned glass. Garnish with candied bacon.

*The Broth

4 cups unsalted beef broth
½ cup onion juice
½ cup carrot juice
½ cup celery juice
1 ½ tablespoons each of salt, sugar, pepper, and minced garlic
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

Directions (Yields 20 ounces)

Simmer until reduced by half.
