Detroit City Distillery This spring, Eastern Market’s Detroit City Distillery celebrated the launch of The Whiskey Factory, an industrial setting for private events. Located just above DCD, the dimly lit space, which serves craft cocktails created with housemade artisanal spirits and locally sourced farm ingredients, The Whiskey Factory’s barrel-lined walls provide a rustic backdrop for intimate events. Lee Payne, assistant manager at DCD, designs a fall cocktail, featuring the spirit that gives the historic site its name — homegrown rye whiskey.

Ingredients
½ ounce lemon juice
¾ ounce Amaro Montenegro
2 ounces Detroit City Distillery Homegrown Rye Whiskey
1 egg white
½ ounce apple shrub
Cinnamon tincture
Orange zest for garnish and flavor

Directions (Makes one drink)
Pour lemon juice, apple shrub, and rye into a tin shaker and shake with ice for 30 seconds. Double-strain liquids into a glass. Add egg white to tin, then pour in liquid mixture and shake again — this keeps the volume in the egg. Pour into a cocktail glass, top with cinnamon tincture, orange zest, and serve.
