Christina Kallery

Christina Kallery is a copywriter, freelance beauty writer, and poet. Last October, she underwent chemotherapy for early stage breast cancer and used cold caps to save her hair. She shares her experience with the treatment on page 50. A graduate of the University of Michigan, Kallery was born in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and spent seven years living in New York City, a place she still considers a second home. She currently resides in Detroit with Freddie and Frances, her very adorable cats.

Matthew LaVere

Matthew LaVere has been a freelance photographer for the last seven years and is excited for the years ahead. This issue, LaVere photographed Christina Kallery (pictured above), and some of his past clients include, Car Design News, DFCU, DBusiness magazine, and Shinola Detroit. Look for him at Detroit Metro Airport, where he might be traveling off to his next photo assignment, or at various colleges across metro Detroit where he mentors photography students about business practices.

Vidhya Nagarajan

Vidhya Nagarajan is an illustrator from St. Louis who was the artistic hand behind this month’s cover image and Top Docs package (see page 67). She now lives in NYC where she draws for books, magazines, and websites. Her illustrations have appeared in outlets like The New York Times, The Atlantic, The Wall Street Journal, and NPR. She has also done work for major corporations like Google and has taught design and illustration at her alma mater, Washington University in St. Louis. Apart from drawing, her interests include traveling and eating — she’s currently on a quest to find the best pizza in New York.

Tatiana Walk-Morris

Tatiana Walk-Morris is a journalist whose work has appeared in The New York Times, The Guardian, vogue.com, cosmopolitan.com, and many other national publications. Her primary focus is technology and business, but she has also written about culture, personal finance, community news, and health. (See her story on therapy in metro Detroit on page 74.) A native of Detroit’s east side, Tatiana moved to Chicago in 2011 to study journalism at Columbia College Chicago. Though she loves writing in Chicago, she still misses her family, Coney Islands, and Vernors Ginger Ale.
