Pronto! Gets a New Team

It’s off into the sunset for former Pronto! owners Jim Domanski, Tom Murray, and Bill Thomas. After 23 years, they’ve sold their domain on Royal Oak’s Washington Avenue to Greg Cooksey, Lindsay Edmonstone, and Nicole Nassif. Managing partner Nassif says they plan to keep the menu pretty much as it is and do some updating of the décor …

Matt Baldridge has left the executive chef post at downtown’s Cliff Bell’s to ride the pop-up restaurant wave. He’s teamed with artist Janna Coumoundouros and musician/film maker Derek John of the Storefront Gallery in Ferndale to form dinnerclubpopup.com. Glasses Half Full

There isn’t an oyster in sight at Ale Mary’s, now completely separate from its sibling, Tom’s Oyster Bar in Royal Oak, where the proprietors decided to carve the space in half to make room for a completely beer-centric menu at 316 S. Main St. Chef Geoffrey Woodman makes the sausages that star on the menu along with burgers, Scotch eggs, and beer-glazed whitefish. Does the word sturdy come to mind? Diamonds for Diamond Jim’s ‘Saloon’

Next month marks the third anniversary of Diamond Jim Brady’s Bistro’s move into its handsome quarters in Novi Town Center. But in December comes the real milestone, when the “saloon” established by the late Jim Brady in Detroit hits its diamond anniversary of 60 years. It’s now in the hands of the original Jim’s daughter-in-law, Mary Brady, and her business partner and chef Sharon Juergens.
