ATWATER IN THE PARK ///

Churches make great settings for restaurants. This repurposed space stars gleaming brewery equipment under stained-glass windows at this collaboration between Atwater and The Epicurean Group. A courtyard biergarten completes the look. Beer is, of course, the beverage. The accompanying fare features such dishes as bratwurst, knockwurst, kielbasa, and sauerkraut, as well as wiener schnitzel, sandwiches, and burgers. 1175 Lakepointe St., Grosse Pointe Park; 313-344-5104. L Sat.-Sun., D nightly from 2 p.m. $15

WRIGHT & COMPANY ///

The collaboration between former Wolfgang Puck chef Marc Djozlija and Dave Kwiatkowski of Sugar House gives new life to the second-floor space in the vintage Wright Kay building. They call the spot “a neighborhood gathering place” (you can call downtown a neighborhood as more people move into nearby lofts). Small plates — such as spicy tuna tartare with pickled pears and wontons and pork tenderloin with goat cheese puree — are the focus of the menu. It’s served in the tin-ceilinged space overlooking the avenue through uncovered windows in a spacious room. There are also 50 wine selections. 1500 Woodward Ave., Detroit; 313-962-7711. D Mon.-Sat. $16 H via elevator
