Inaugural Murals in the Market to bring scores of artists to Detroit’s Eastern Market
1377

Detroit has a long, vibrant history of large-scale, intricate murals. Examples date as far back as the 1930s with Diego Rivera’s industry mural — his self-proclaimed best work— to modern-day projects such as Shepard Fairey’s massive 135-floor installment downtown.

The inaugural Murals in the Market will celebrate this colorful history from Sept. 17-25 in Detroit’s Eastern Market. This multi-day festival will feature more than 45 local and international artists live painting new, large-scale works throughout the district. Other festivities will include panel discussions with artists and farmers, a cultural Slow Roll tour, and more.
