Rich History

Today more than ever, aesthetic plastic surgery has proliferated in our culture. With the universal acceptance of cosmetic procedures, many plastic surgery practices have made their way into Michigan. Some have disappeared just as quickly as they opened.

There’s one practice in the metro Detroit area, however, that has more than half a century of history and commitment to quality: The Straith Clinic.

The practice was originally founded in the 1930s by Claire Straith, M.D., D.D.S., a pioneer in the field of plastic surgery. His revolutionary innovations put Detroit on the national plastic surgery map.

Patient education is also very important at the Straith Clinic. After any procedure, patients are followed postoperatively at regularly scheduled intervals, usually for at least one year, to track all the changes that can occur after surgery. Additionally, the Straith Clinic conducts free educational seminars throughout the year, so the public can learn about the latest and safest techniques for various procedures.

State-of-the-Art Surgical Techniques and Facility

The surgeons at the Straith Clinic employ the latest nonsurgical and surgical innovations.

The current trend in facial rejuvenation is toward less-invasive nonsurgical techniques, mainly injectable fillers and Botox®. Patients must be aware that these techniques in no way replace traditional surgical techniques and their results are nowhere near as dramatic.

“Newer surgical techniques use shorter incisions to achieve the goals of traditional procedures. That usually results in shorter recovery times and less noticeable scars,” says Dr. Tong. “These techniques can provide good results; however, patients should be aware that they may not be applicable to everyone.”

The doctors perform most of their surgeries in the Straith Clinic’s own AAAHC-accredited operating suite, which is contained in the facility. “This allows for more flexibility in scheduling, and more convenience and privacy for our patients,” says Dr. Tong. “The Straith Clinic also holds affiliations with premier area hospitals, should a patient choose to have surgery at a hospital.”
