It’s undoubtedly true that most metro Detroiters are wishing for spring. Warmer weather would be a swell alternative to the current frigid temperatures, icy roads, and gray skies bringing everyday dampers. But what we can also look forward to this spring is the opening of the build-your-own-taco eatery, Condado Tacos, in Royal Oak. While the Columbus-based restaurant has 10 locations throughout the Midwest, this will be its first metro Detroit site.
Offering fresh, made-from-scratch ingredients every day, Condado Tacos doesn’t just serve the ordinary combination of ground meat, black beans, and guacamole. Patrons can choose to fill their taco shells with various protein options including ghost pepper steak, chorizo, and shrimp ceviche, just to name a few. The eatery also provides options for vegetarians and vegans like the BBQ pulled jackfruit, as well as offerings for those looking for a different take on Mexican cuisine such as the sausage and gravy-stuffed tacos. And though the numerous options to choose from may seem overwhelming, Condado provides Scantron-style menus that simplify the ordering process.
Condado’s drink menu is just as extensive as their edible offerings. Libations include wine and cocktails, along with pitchers, and single glasses of margaritas and sangria. Their Smoke and Bones margarita combines Sauza Blue Silver tequila, Triple Sec, and fresh lime juice with a splash of soda, while their red sangria includes a mixture of strawberries, blood oranges, and lime. The Oaxaca Old Fashioned, a drink featuring Wahaka Reposado Mezcal, Angustura bitters, and simple syrup, is one of the standout cocktails on the menu. The taco joint also feats their Manhattan Magnifico menu, a bill of fare where customers can choose a spirit that Condado bartenders will incorporate into an alternative Manhattan. One of Condado’s options includes a pairing of Diplomatico Exclusiva rum, with Cocchi di Torino, and molasses bitters. The Royal Oak location will also serve breakfast all day, between their business hours of 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.
