Shen Yun: Translated as “the beauty of divine beings dancing,” the classical New York-based Chinese dance company Shen Yun Performing Arts and its mission is to revive the 5,000-year-old Chinese culture through the art of classical, ethnic and folk, story-based dance. There will be colorful costumes, high-tech backgrounds, and an orchestra accompanying the skillful dancers, who have received praise from actress Cate Blanchett, Tony Award-winning producer Stewart F. Dinner in the Dark: Guests are about to enjoy a meal, masterfully crafted by the chefs at MGM Grand in Detroit, but before they can dig in there’s one catch: they’ll have to agree to eat blindfolded. That’s the premise for the Dinner in the Dark fundraiser hosted by Leader Dogs for the Blind, a Rochester Hills organization that offers guide dog training, orientation and mobility training, and a summer camp program at no cost to blind and visually impaired individuals around the world. $285,000.
