The Henry Ford Museum — part of the sprawling complex known collectively as The Henry Ford — holds its annual celebration of Black History in America in February.
The museum explores how Africans brought here as slaves changed American history — from historical figures and inventors to modern-day visionaries.
On Feb. 3, a “National Day of Courage” commemorates the day in 1955 when Rosa Parks helped spark the modern civil rights movement. Each year, the museum invites thought leaders from various walks of life to discuss current topics. This year’s focus is on bullying and how society and individuals can stand up against it.
You can also sit on the actual bus where Parks changed history (pictured above). The bus is a part of the museum’s permanent collection, and is on display year-round.
Each weekend in the Drive-In Theatre, there will be musical and dramatic performances following the theme of “Journey and Legacy.” The Michigan Café will also offer special menu items.
Other events this month include a “Local Roots” dinner that pays tribute to the farmers and regional food producers on Feb. 7, and the monthly “Macy’s 2nd Mondays” events for children on Feb. 10.
