If you thought those leftover cans of paint lining the walls of the basement or garage don’t amount to a bucket of spit, think again. The Southeastern Oakland County Resource Recover Authority (SOCRRA) has teamed with Battle Creek-based ePaint Recycling to help divert latex paint from the waste stream.
Residents of SOCRRA’s 12 member communities and Bloomfield Hills can schedule a drop-off at the organization’s recycling center in Troy.
“They take our paint and they mix it together,” says SOCRRA Education Director Karen Bever. “You get a color, which they sell to Habitat for Humanity.”
The result is a product aptly named Everybody’s Paint.
“I like the title, too,” Bever says. “Because it is everybody’s paint.”
Note: Only wet latex paint can be recycled. Dried paint should be removed from the can, which can be recycled, and placed in the trash.
