Hard Hats for Detroit
In collaboration with Sachse Construction, local artists Olivia Guterson, Nicole Jarecz, and India Solomon designed unique hard hats to be auctioned off in support of various organizations, including The Empowerment Plan, Alternative for Girls, and BasBlue. The purpose of this fundraising auction is to empower women and girls through art, with the hard hats representing strength and resilience. The online auction began on Nov. 19 and ends on Dec. 3. Mango Cannabis opens first store in founders’ Home State
Mango Cannabis, a marijuana dispensary founded by Michigan natives Kevin Pattah, Jon Pattah, Mike Khemmoro, and Brandon Binno, opened a 4,000-square-foot retail store in Lansing on Nov. 12. Oakland County Parks are Now Free to Enjoy
Planning a trip to an Oakland County Park (OCP)? Thanks to voters who approved the OCP’s millage proposal on Nov. 5, you can do so now without paying a general park entry fee or needing a vehicle permit. Residents from other counties are not required to pay for entry, but a voluntary contribution is encouraged to recognize the support provided by Oakland County taxpayers. Prada Opens First Michigan Location at Somerset Collection
The century-old Italian fashion house finally made its way to the Mitten State on Nov. 1 with a 4,250-square-foot store at Somerset Collection. There, shoppers can expect to find ready-to-wear items for women and men, including tailored sets, dresses in sablè, poplin shirting, and garments designed with velvet denim and checkered wool. Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan Will Not Be Seeking a Fourth Term
In 2025, for the first time in 12 years, Mike Duggan’s name won’t appear on the ballot for Detroit mayor. At the Erma L. Henderson Auditorium at the Coleman A.Young Municipal Center, Duggan announced on Nov. 13 that he won’t be seeking a fourth term because he has done what he “had set out to do.” He did not answer whether he had considered a run for governor in 2026. First Two Endovascular Fem Pop Bypass Surgeries Performed in Michigan
Dr. Maciej Uzieblo and Dr. Kyle Markel performed the state’s first two endovascular fem pop bypass surgeries, a procedure used to treat femoral artery disease, at William Beaumont University Hospital in Royal Oak on Sept. 6 and Oct. 7, without having the patients undergo an amputation or open surgical bypass. Bedrock and GM Release Concept for Renaissance Center Redevelopment
On Nov. 25, Bedrock and GM released conceptual plans for the redevelopment of Detroit’s Renaissance Center along with 27 acres along the Detroit Riverfront. The plan includes removing the low-rise base of the complex and two office towers nearest the river and turning the remaining towers into a mix of hospitality spaces and housing.
