For Hour Detroit’s April issue, writer George Bulanda and photographer Jenny Risher visited Stritch in her Birmingham condo just after her 89th birthday. The Broadway star left Detroit in 1943 to follow her dream as a singer and actress, and her career was chronicled in the documentary, Elaine Stritch: Shoot Me, which premiered at the Uptown Birmingham 8 on April 4. After the interview Bulanda noted, “I rarely ask for autographs; it seems so vulgar, but she’s no ordinary celebrity.”
