Greenfield Village staff ready the ‘playing field’ for April 15

The Detroit Tigers are playing ball, but another sure sign of spring is the opening of Greenfield Village at The Henry Ford.

After a long, cold winter, staffers are prepping the fields of Firestone Farm and getting the rest of the attraction ready for visitors.

By the time the village opens on April 15, the Model T’s will be washed, the Herschell-Spillman Carousel will be buffed and polished, and the Sir John Bennett Sweet Shop will be fully stocked.

Special events include a “Local Roots” preview on April 14 where guests can be the first to try the new Eagle Tavern menu. And the kids can have a “Day Out” with Thomas the Tank Engine — April 26-27 and May 3-4 and 10-11. Fans can also ride on a historic steam or diesel locomotive-pulled train on a 3-mile route, with key stops in the village.
