Dr. Jessica Kakos is a modern dentist who uses specialized, cutting-edge equipment yet maintains an old-fashioned sensibility. At her offices in Bloomfield Hills and West Bloomfield, patients always come first. “Our patients are the center of this dental practice,” says the University of Detroit Mercy graduate. And she means it.
Dr. Kakos and her staff are upbeat and caring, and do what it takes to make patients feel comfortable and at ease.
The mother of four young children, Dr. Kakos is especially good with the youngsters. With her patient-centered approach, she takes time with each individual and cares about every smile.
Her office is equipped with the latest technology, including digital X-rays that provide a comprehensive study of the mouth, and a CEREC machine, which makes it possible to create and attach computer designed ceramic crowns in just one office visit. She can also fit selected patients with Invisalign braces that require no metal.
Because of the high incidence of gum disease, Dr. Kakos has a periodontist at her locations to handle her patients’ gum issues and provide numerous periodontal procedures including dental implants.
Dr. Kakos practices general and cosmetic dentistry, all with a conservative eye and a dedication to individualized care.
“Dentistry can be subjective,” she says. “I like to stay conservative, I like to watch things, and I want patients to see the big picture, especially regarding aesthetic improvements. Function is key.”
In a field that is growing and becoming big business, Dr. Kakos stays true to dentistry, bringing a strong work ethic and sense of honesty to her practice.
She stresses the importance of oral health and uses her vantage point as a dentist to look for warning signs in the mouth that might indicate more serious illnesses. On several occasions, she has spotted signs of heart disease, diabetes, and cancer, and then referred patients to have further evaluations.
“A simple visit to the dentist can prevent other problems,” Dr. Kakos says. “A lot of people don’t realize we find these things, but it’s all related. I look at practicing dentistry as a gift God has given to me. I’m here to serve others and help them.”
In that spirit, Dr. Kakos volunteers her time to dental organizations and other charitable groups. She offers payment plans to her patients, because she knows dental challenges are often unanticipated. And she offers free athletic mouthpieces to student athletes at schools in areas surrounding her offices.
“It’s a rewarding time to be a dentist,” she says. “There’s almost always a worthy solution for a dental problem, thanks to so many new advancements.”
Although she’s certainly attuned to these advancements, Dr. Kakos maintains the kind of patient-centered service that harkens back to when the practice was established more than 50 years ago.
