Detroit MI. – In honor of Black History Month, Unlimited Sky Production and The Preservation of Jazz proudly present: The First Annual Black Bottom Jazz Showcase featuring 3 amazing tributes on one stage, for one night only.
The ANITA O’ DAY TRIBUTE, male jazz revue – TAKE 5 , and the popular female jazz revue – THE SATIN DOLL REVUE. The production will take place, February 25, 2023 in the Bert’s Warehouse Theater 2739 Russell Detroit, MI.
Like the fine rides made in the Motor City back in the day this one’s firing on all cylinders. Step back in time as classic Detroit host Sonny Wilson, played by comedian Mike Bonner, takes us on a trip through the passages of jazz using the songs and stories of great women and men in their field.
It all started twenty years ago when Multi – Detroit Music Award Sky Covington put together a tribute show to Billie Holiday and it hasn’t stopped since.
In early 2022 the Satin Doll Revue included vocalist Ella Fitzgerald, Bessie Smith, Sarah Vaughan, Dinah Washington, Etta James, Nina Simone and Carmen Mcrae, since then, we have added Dakota Staton, Lena Horne, and Nancy Wilson. There, after her all male revue, Take 5, took the stage. Spotlighting jazz greats like Louis Armstrong, Mile Davis, Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong, Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra, just to name a few. Her newest production to date, The Golden Days of Jazz, features vocalist Anita O’ Day, Peggy Lee and Abbey Lincoln. Each jazz vocalist and musician truly brings the legends spirit back to the stage.
It’s more than just jazz, it’s theater, it’s a history lesson, it’s a downright great time. Each of the vocalist and musicians are native Detroiters involved in the music scene on a variety of levels and we are so excited to take this show on a bigger stage.
