Together, We are Brilliant Detroit! Come Be a Part of Our Celebration
Wednesday, September 13, 2023 from 5:30pm – 8:00pm(EST), at Chroma Detroit! When we came together 7 years ago to create Brilliant Detroit, we began with a question – what can we do to ensure that Detroit children are kindergarten ready? We knew that the
answer began at the beginning. 90% of a child’s brain is developed by age 3 and much of their future is impacted by their first eight years of life. We challenged ourselves to be innovative and explore how we could disrupt the current early childhood ecosystem. Here is what we came up with: Instead of families getting in a car or bus to access help, let’s renovate abandoned homes and offer evidence-based programming right in the middle of neighborhoods. Instead of directing what happens to families, let’s listen and learn and provide programming that families need and want. Instead of creating yet another program, let’s act as a connector and bring together organizations that are addressing different early childhood needs in one warm and safe place. Let’s create Kid Success Neighborhoods where families with children ages 0-8 have what they need to be school-ready, healthy, and stable. Seven years later, we have opened our bright orange doors in 14 different Detroit neighborhoods and have committed to 4 more. We continue to pursue creative ways to
approach the challenges our families face. One such challenge is summer reading loss. To combat this, Brilliant Detroit will launch a summer initiative called Detroit Reads. Coordinating with literacy partners across the city, we will get more books into the hands
of families, build strong reading habits, and sign families up for additional opportunities that will help them grow.

Our 7th Annual Benefit Event will culminate this city-wide effort to combat summer reading loss with a joyful, fun-filled gathering. The work we are doing to build Kid Success Neighborhoods through initiatives like Detroit Reads is driven by supporters like you. We need you more than ever to maintain programming and support at our existing 18 hubs, expand into three more neighborhoods by the close of the year, and reach our goal of 24 hubs by 2024. And we need you more than ever as we take this innovative model to cities outside of Detroit and create our Brilliant Cities Fund.

Brilliant Detroit programming and neighborhood hubs
Please explain what this charity supports, i.e., programs, services, etc.
Brilliant Detroit is dedicated to building kid success families and neighborhoods where families with children 0-8 have what they need to be school ready, healthy and stable. We do this by providing proven programming and support year round out of Brilliant Detroit homes in high-need neighborhoods.Brilliant Detroit exists to build “kid success neighborhoods” where families with children from “belly” to 8 have what they need to be school-ready, healthy, and stable. We do this by establishing and operating hubs out of repurposed houses where we offer evidence-based programming to families in the neighborhoods where they live. Our unique service delivery model works with, by, and for our neighbors to improve school readiness, early childhood literacy, health, and family stability in Detroit.
