In celebration of 16 years of transformative youth mentorship, Downtown Boxing Gym (DBG), will host UnGala 2023: The Joys of Being a Kid, on Saturday, September 23. The event will take place from 7:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. at 6445 East Vernor Highway in Detroit and will support of DBG’s free, out-of-school-time program.
The annual event celebrates “the joys of being a kid,” this year with an 80s twist. Guests are invited to relive the ‘80s and their childhood memories with retro arcade games, smores, a nostalgic candy store, a DJ battle, dancing, and a “knockout wall” with prizes. Dinner and drinks will be provided by some of Detroit’s best restaurants. The suggested dress is “sneaker chic,” with guests encouraged to show off their best ‘80s style.
DBG is a national leader in youth development with an award-winning academic and youth mentorship program and a long track record of training kids for life. The nonprofit’s amazing students have a 100% high school graduation rate for 16 straight years. The program is poised for major expansion and growth.
