Detroit MI. – The 11th Annual Hug Detroit Day, Free Concert, Block Party, Backpacks and School Supplies Drive, takes place Sunday, August 27, 2023. Sponsored by Woodbridge Pub, Home of Serenity, Hug Detroit Community Service, Gwen Foxx, City of Arts, The Islamic Center of Detroit Sufian Nabhan, Amazing Kinkz, Detroit Hot Radio and The Preservation of Jazz Foundation.
Join us for the 11th Annual Hug Detroit Day, official block party and backpack/school supplies Drive. The day of the event please feel free to bring blankets and chairs. Dress comfortably, umbrella to block the sun. We will have family games to play, arts & craft, bounce house, giveaways, raffles and remember, this is a Hug party. Don’t be alarmed, if someone comes up to you with their arms open or hands extended for a simple handshake. There will also be other shops open, as well. Woodbridge Pub will have a food menu and two cash bars available, all day long with live entertainment inside, and outside, the newly built Garden Theater Stage.

This year’s Hug Detroit Day Ambassador is the Founder & Ceo of Home Of Serenity, Diane Pears. Home of Serenity is a nonprofit organization that was formed on 05/10/2021 to provide residential care to homeless and disadvantaged pregnant youth. They, currently, have a facility located in Detroit Michigan. The HOS team is working every waking hour to open doors that have an impact on our community. What is Hug Detroit Day? RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING HUG DETROIT DAY

WHEREAS, on August 24-25, 2013, Nicole “Sky Covington” Freeman and Sheila EveretteHale sponsored the first two-day festival celebrating HUG DETROIT DAY, featuring family activities, music and live entertainment, art exhibitions and vendors, but most importantly, hugs, handshakes, caring and sharing of community to acknowledge the awesome people of Detroit; and
WHEREAS, the impact of, and the excitement generated by HUG DETROIT DAY was so well received by the community that it will be celebrated on the fourth Sunday of August each year since its inception. This year’s HUG DETROIT DAY, planned for August 27, 2023, will show appreciation for the accomplishments of Detroit and its people, celebrating a day of non-violence, honoring those who have lost their lives to protect the community, and emphasizing all that we have in common – with a day of hugs.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Detroit City Council, in appreciation for the important sentiment promoted by this event, hereby designates the fourth Sunday of August each year as HUG DETROIT DAY, and recognizes Sunday, August 27, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. through 11:00 p.m., as the 11th Annual HUG DETROIT DAY official party, a big Love and Music Official Block Party held on Woodbridge Pub (neighborhood).
