SUMMARY:National Kidney Foundation of Michigan Kidney Walk
DESCRIPTION:the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan Kidney Walk will return to the Detroit Zoo. This walk is one of 62 Kidney Walks taking place across the country to fund innovation in kidney disease research\, advocacy and transplantation. Walk activities include a Champion’s Tent with dialysis friendly food and gifts\, a children’s area\, raffle prize baskets\, and an opening ceremony honoring top fundraisers. \nLocal organizers have set a goal of raising $367\,000 to support kidney disease patients. Each step taken and dollar raised supports patients\, care partners and friends in the kidney community. \nKidney disease is a significant health concern in the U.S. Thirty-seven million Americans are living with kidney disease. 1 in 3 adults is at risk for developing the condition. It is the country’s 9th leading cause of death. Too often\, individuals aren’t aware their kidneys are losing function until the disease has progressed to the point of needing life-sustaining dialysis or a transplant. To raise awareness\, and to support Michigan’s kidney care community\, DaVita serves as a local sponsor of the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan Kidney Walk and a Kidney Walk national partner.
