The Michigan Glass Project

June 9, 2023 - June 11, 2023

$30 – $70

The Michigan Galss Project is a 501c3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to unite artists through charitable events that create and foster positive change in the community. We believe that by sharing a creative space with like-minded artists from around the nation we can make a difference in the lives of those around us.

Since our inception we have had great success with our three-day glassblowing collaborations. Glassblowers from around the nation worked together to make multiple collaborative pieces and individual work. Proceeds from the sale of the pieces, monetary donations and auctions allowed us to donate $36,000 to The Belle Isle Aquarium from 2012-2014. Proceeds from our 2015-2019 events has allowed us to donate $475,000 to Art Road Nonprofit, an organization that is returning art classes to the regular curriculum of Detroit public schools who lost theirs due to budget cuts. Our 2023 beneficiary will continue to be Art Road, ensuring we can provide art class to even more children in the future.

Festivities include three days of live music, graffiti, food, over 100 vendor booths, live painting and 100+ glassblowers collaborating on multiple artistic creations. Our silent auction provides attendees with opportunities to purchase hundreds of items donated for the cause. This event will provide a space for our sponsors, glass artists, vendors and other attendants to establish new connections as well as expand on existing relationships.

We celebrate the return of elementary art programming in local schools by supporting Art Road Non Profit with a 3 day live art making event. We have donagted over 500k to charities since our inception in 2012. Live demos include glass blowing, painting, foundry work, weaving, neon, and more. This event also parallels the Glass Art Society's annual international conference. There will be public glass blowing demonstrations on the DIA campus the week before the event. We are also showing a documentary about our mission called "Give Back Art" at the DFT on June 8th. Detroit will be a very glassy place with literaly thousands of glass blowers in town in support of all the celebrations.
