Dr. Michael Simony says people often ask him why he doesn’t do veneers. One answer, he says, is because he loves caring for families. “The other answer is because many full-mouth rehabilitations need me to place implants, crowns, or bridges, or perform gum surgery or root canals, all while restoring harmony, function, and aesthetics,” he says, adding that the end result is truly anti-aging.

From a wide lens, smile design is about understanding the three-dimensional shape and color of a smile and how it complements the patient’s face. From a narrow lens, it involves redesigning teeth that carry the characterization of the original teeth, so the patient’s new smile is believable enough to be their own. “You need an artist’s eye and a scientist’s brain,” Dr. Simony says. “I always combine these two talents into every smile. It’s why each smile is tailor-made for that person.”

“It’s spectacular when you give someone a reason to smile, and it bolsters their confidence,” he continues. “I see it every day. A healthy, amazing mouth is the fuel for a powerful smile — and it’s the key to loving your smile.”
